Matt is a fire protection and life safety consultant who excels in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment. He brings a unique perspective to Code Red Consultants with nearly 5 years of experience working in the construction industry as a site superintendent. Matts worked on a wide array of projects, ranging from condominium fit-outs to commercial lab buildings. His experience on such projects allows him to readily understand the construction process and provide insight on the many consulting & field services Code Red provides. He takes pride in his work and is passionate about exceeding client expectations. As a new consultant, Matt is eager to continue growing everyday through new challenges and experiences, both personally and professionally.

What is something that colleagues and clients might not know about you?

I love being outdoors any chance I get. Whether that’s hiking, camping, fishing, or just being a beach bum, I’m going jump at any of those opportunities!

Before joining Code Red Consultants, Brian worked at UMass Chan Medical School/UMass Memorial Medical Center for eight years. He spent his first four years in the Fire Safety Department, where he conducted inspection and testing on various fire safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, pre-action & dry sprinkler systems, fire pumps, fire alarm devices, elevator recalls, fire doors, and was involved in commissioning of new/renovated areas of buildings.

Subsequently, Brian then transitioned to the Occupational Safety and Environment of Care department at UMass, where he led the fire safety program at the UMass University Campus.  His responsibilities included ensuring regulatory compliance for Joint Commission, conducting over forty fire drill annually, coordinating Operating Room/Perioperative fire drills, and implementing a staff training program on fire extinguisher usage.

In addition to his work at UMass, Brian served as a member of the fire service for the towns of Auburn and Charlton for a total of eight years.

What is something that colleagues and clients might not know about you?

When I was 17, I played hockey for a Team USA Selects 18-and-under team and traveled to Hungary to compete against teams from around the world.

Sean Herman is a Life Safety Consultant with Code Red Consultants and has seven years of experience in the Fire Protection and Life Safety Consulting industry. His project work and management experience has spanned across the country from California to Massachusetts, working on a variety of project types and market sectors; most notably, primary education, higher education, high-rise office and residential buildings, and mixed-use buildings.

Sean is a strong team player and collaborator who is proactive with communication and project coordination. He enjoys taking on complex issues experienced during the design and construction process to develop safe and cost-effective solutions while maintaining the clients/ design team’s vision. Sean’s expertise includes building and fire code consulting, fire protection systems design and consulting, negotiation with the Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and utilizing CAD/BIM programs to develop and deliver a successful and efficient project.

What is something that colleagues and clients might not know about you?

I am always up for an adventure. Whether it’s off-roading or backpacking to a remote campsite, surfing at a local beach, skiing around the world, fishing at a secret spot, seeing live music, or hosting a cookout with friends and family, I love to create memories and push myself to experience new places and things. 

Nicolas is a highly motivated fire protection and life safety consultant who is passionate about complex problem solving and decision making. His background in aerospace engineering provides a unique perspective on engineering fundamentals that apply to fire systems and science. Nicolas primarily works within the fields of healthcare, transportation, and smoke control modeling. He enjoys critical thinking and collaborating with colleagues to provide solutions for our clients in a timely and cost saving manner. As a new consultant, Nicolas strives to continue bettering himself every day, including continuing his education in pursuit of his Master of Science in Fire Protection Engineering and studying for his Fundamentals of Engineering exam.

What is something that colleagues might not know about you?

Some clients and colleagues may not know that I am German American. I lived in Germany for 6 years growing up and am fluent in the language.

Matt is a Fire Protection and Life Safety Consultant who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. He works primarily in the residential, academic, office, and assembly markets, working on numerous aspects of the building and development process. He is focused on bringing his understanding of the relevant codes and standards to projects and enjoys finding solutions to routine and unique challenges, providing the best possible solution for his client’s needs. Matt takes every opportunity to grow and learn, both in the office and out in the field, including continuing his education as he works towards completing his Master of Science in Fire Protection Engineering.

What do you love most about your job?

I enjoy the opportunities to always be challenged and learn new skills while I am in the office. The support and resources at Code Red help me develop myself, so I can continue to improve every day.

Josh is a fire protection and life safety consultant that enjoys the complexity, and constantly evolving nature of fire protection engineering. He takes pride in his work and is dedicated to providing attentive and responsive client service. Josh’s experience includes code consulting for transportation facilities, smoke control system design, serving as smoke control special inspector, and construction fire safety.

In addition to his consulting experience, Josh has previously worked in an Authority Having Jurisdiction role and is currently a career firefighter for a large urban fire department.

What do you love most about your job?

I enjoy being part of a collaborative team that strives to make the built environment safer.

Jake is a motivated life safety consultant who seeks to gain as much knowledge of the fire protection industry as possible. As a result, he offers support in many services offered by Code Red Consultants including construction fire safety, firestopping special inspections, healthcare surveys, and building and life safety code consulting. Jake concurrently took classes for his Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and his Master’s in Fire Protection Engineering while being a member of the wrestling team and acting as an officer in his fraternity. He is no stranger to hard work! Completing two summer internships with Code Red and another with a residential construction firm, Jake joined fulltime with an understanding of how to be successful. Jake enjoys working with others to solve unique problems in the field and in the office and is excited for the growth he will achieve while working at Code Red Consultants.

What do you love most about your job?

I enjoy the constant variety of work and challenges faced each day. I love expanding my knowledge base through all facets of fire protection engineering and look forward to connecting with individuals within FPE and the many related fields.

Sullivan is a fire protection and life safety consultant eager to grow in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Working primarily with field services, he enjoys that every project provides a unique challenge and opportunity to develop professional relationships. Sullivan’s background in Mechanical Engineering and previous experience in shipyard construction provides a unique perspective on how clients and contractors interact during the construction process and allows him to better understand the nuances of communication in the field. As a young consultant, Sullivan is excited to be provided with numerous learning opportunities from his colleagues and continue to grow himself personally and professionally.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The sense of community in the office environment, and the continued support of my colleagues regarding professional and personal growth.

Anna is a fire protection and life safety consultant who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Working with a variety of clients, project types, and consultants, she enjoys that every day provides a new challenge to solve, and no two projects are the same. Anna mostly focuses her consulting efforts on residential projects including accessibility code analysis. Her background in Architectural Engineering provides a unique perspective on how clients come to decisions during the design process which allows her to communicate seamlessly with architects. As a young consultant, Anna is excited to be provided with numerous learning opportunities from her colleagues and continue to grow in her role.

What is something that colleagues and clients might not know about you?

In my free time, I enjoy singing and playing music. I grew up playing the piano and organ and being very involved in school and community choirs. At WPI, I was the student conductor of the festival choir and had the opportunity to conduct on our tour to Berlin and Prague, conducting in a beautiful church in Old Town Square with a huge crowd of people that were just walking by and wanted to listen.

Austin is a fire protection consultant driven to maintain public safety for every project and client. He enjoys working in an environment where there is a variety of projects that require different solutions.  Austin enjoys making an impact on the end result and working with colleagues that have a similar passion for protecting people. Austin is eager to use his skills and knowledge to help clients, and develop project solutions to achieve overall life safety for all stakeholders.

What is something that colleagues and clients might not know about you?

I love the outdoors, dabble in photography, and I was a downhill ski racer while enrolled at WPI.
