CMS and Joint Commission Life Safety Inspections- How do they differ?
Hospitals often are surveyed by both the Joint Commission and CMS in the same year as part of a validation survey. While the two organizations are reviewing the building to generally the same code requirements, their findings, inspection methods, and analysis often differ significantly. This presentation will provide a case study comparing a recent joint commission inspection and CMS validation survey to compare and contrast the two survey processes. Additionally, recommended best practices will be presented from a facility directors perspective.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the relationship between the Joint Commission, CMS, and the codes and standards they enforce.
- Understand the survey methodology utilized by Joint Commission and CMS life safety inspectors
- Identify key differences commonly experienced in the analysis performed by the two organizations
- Identify best practices to prepare for a survey from either the Joint Commission or CMS.
We hope to see you there!
